Hi TM,

Just view this one here...well all i can i say is...
Its time to make a telescope or buy a good cheap secondhand one and take a look ourself.lol
The moon isnt that far and on some night with clear sky you can cleary see it and almost tough it.lol
What kinda magnification rate do you think is needed to take a peek at the moon and actually see something on it that have like the size of a house???

Well the moon is about 363000 km away at its closest orbit.
So if we wanted to see something that looked 363 km away-we would need 1000 x magnification.
But for us to see a city here on earth with any clarity we would need to be within 60km.
so we would need a magnification of 6500x on our telescope--not going to happen.
my scope is a 12 inch scope, and at 600x magnification i can only see the very large crater's.
Also at that power the moon passes the field of view in about 12 second's.
So at 6500x magnification, the field of view would be about 1 second.
The other problem at that magnification is the atmosphere-the moon would just be a blury white light at that power.
Here is some pics i took through my scope.
The first is at 280 x
The second at 350x
the third at 550x
and the forth is at 800x.This was done by useing a 4mm eye piece at 400x with a 2x barlow lens-that is why it has a very small field of view.
So as you will see-we aint going to make the 6500x magnification we need lol.

Hi TM

Nice pics of the moon, very clear to see the crators...^^
So even if we make an 6500x magnification we wont see any stuff on the moon...crappy...lol
Theres an Observatory not so far for me and they do have times where people can like borrow (for some cash ofcourse) the telescope to view at the sky.
Its the oldest in Europe so ill check them out and see if i can get a date and also if its possible to make pics of what i`m looking at...
Will keep you updated as it goes...;-)

Btw, shame that the 4th one is sooooooo small...lol

The 4th one is small because the hole that you look through in the eye piece is only 4mm in diameter.
The other shots were through a 12mm eye piece.
A 12mm eye piece with 400x magnification is around 1200 dollar's lol-so wont be buying one of them any time soon.
I am saveing to buy a new scope, and hopefuly will have it by november.
This is an 18 inch scope,so i will have over twice the light gathering power.
At $3000.oo i hope it can see the martions changing there minds

Hi TJ
you will need what they call -3rd generation night vision goggles or camera.
This give much higher infared and ultra violet spectrum resolutions.
