Hi shak

Q1= yes you twist the hole coil with the drill and that is called litzing the wire. But you don't have to but the resistance will be higher= less power.
Q2= SD3T told you 100' and that is 18ga wire and yes you can use other ga wire but 18 works the best.
Q3= you are right about batteries to power this for a couple of reasons 1, a power supply will not have the right resistance of the batteries for a balance of the coil, 2 SD3T and I have found with this type of charger it uses a lot more amps than the meter shows and you can't get that from a plug in wall type. 3, The discharge of the run battery is just as important as charging the charge battery so what I am saying is you do both at the same time. There are more advantages but these will keep you busy for now. This section is for these questions and the video is for just video. thanks and hope this helps

Hi Darrell

Your question is where do you buy wire and a pot. Here is a link where SD3T and I get our wire, just make sure it is 200C temp.

As far as a pot goes we are buying them also on Ebay but they come from a Check country that has Russian parts LOL they are the cheapest. They should be 2 watts and 500 ohms depending on what you will build. Some of our SS SSG's are down in the 100 ohm range and the SS TS are getting into the .05 ohms LOL 56 and lower are the average. Here is the link to the suppler look at this other parts for 500 ohms I am sending you the link for the 100 ohms.

I think SD3T also buys locally at FRY'S but he is not happy with them. But this will get you started Hope this helps

this is my first ever circuit build I have never ever actual made anything involving circuit boards and stuff do bare with me here is pic of it let me know if it is done correctly or not Please.

I placed the diods 4001 under trans

I am worried about the 3 trans's as they got quite hot while I was soldering the wire and diod on top view image how do I test or check to see if they are still ok or not.

I am thinking of using this for a solid state?
sorry for my ingnorance.
I don' have it hooked up to a coil or anything yet will wait to see what I need to correct with circuit if anything.

Hi TWS

You need a coil before anything else. One transistor for each coil. The coil MUST have a trigger coil for the first setup.

I think so but if you put voltage to it, you will burn up the transistors also the batteries MUST both be connected before you turn it on.

on the heating issue when soldering, TWS, you should pick up a pair of forceps or some sort of spring loaded clamp that is either copper or aluminum then clamp between the compenent and the solder joint on the wire as it will drain teh heat heading for the component (like the diode barrel or the body of the transistor) so that it does not over heat, giving you more leed way for the heating up of the solder, :)
