Here is another topic I find facinating but not sure where to put it.

I have been researching them a lot for a friend who has a bunch of water that is overflowing out of her water tanks and trying to figuere out how to get water way up the hill. It is really for a place that has flowing water nearby.

Researching about it the dynamics reminds me a bit of how the bendini circut works where the flap valves (instead of a transistor) suddenly stopping the water current(instead of electricity) results in a 10 - 100x increase in the lift(voltage spike). The waste goes back to the river (which would be the primary battery in the bendini circut case). Simple ones can be built with PVC for less than 50 bucks.

Hmmm not sure I want it to go anywhere special.

I find sometimes by getting "parallel" information on one phenomena gives me insight on another. I.e. Chinese medicine is based on the study of how the elements of fire, water, earth, air, and either react to each other. They took those observations and aligned the similar attributes that are present in the human body based in tendencies. Based on the external observations, they were able to come up with understanding about the metaphoric observation(which in this case was the human body) and successfully treat it. Just another way of doing science I guess.........

Saying that for those that don't know much about it, google it and watch a couple videos on it. It's worth a peek at it.

Hey Shak,
I have also been interested in Ram pump's ( my Pop and Grandpa usta talk about several that were put in locally and ran pumping water for 50 + years with nothing but the stream's running them ).. If you have any good cheap design's , Please post em , I'm sure, I/We would find a good use for them if nothing else but for , inspiration for other thing's ... Thanks

Hey 49er,
I haven't got any pic's but, just go to Google images and search RAM PUMP , it should give Images and at the top it should have stuff like how a ram pump work's , How to build a PVC ram pump .. I haven't found any old one's around but, I do look for them ..
If you have running water, they are great for a no power needed pump , well the old one's were .

Hi K

Thanks Now we have something to look at and talk about. It is about water and so it should stay here. I have never seen or heard about one of these I have to remember so I can take it up to the claim this summer for dredge season no more gas lugging.. Thanks again

Yeah 49er ,
If your hauling Liquid Gold to dredge Yellow Gold it would cut into any profit's you would have had , LOL ..
Sound's like you have a perfect application for a few of em . Good Deal !

OH Yea 49er , maybe you could make a place for these Ram Pumps and such /// Something like just " Water Power " then subdivide for specific applications .. It would cover a wider range of topics that way ,,, just a thought

Sorry guys I did a whole bunch of research on it last week but didn't save anything. I wish I can be more helpful after all the tips you have given me. However here are a few links that I dug up in my history files:

You must be logged in to see this link. this guys other videos are very informative as he gets into the science of things.

Here are some vague plans.

You must be logged in to see this link.(original)

Here's one some kid made and he really outlines the simple parts well......

You must be logged in to see this link.

As you see it is quite simple. Between watching the vids and the links I feel no plans may be needed. Really just two flap valves and some pipe. If you want to get faccy I would say a PVC sewer pipe with a bicycle inner tube inflated crammed in it.

Kudzu as you get a feel for it do you feel my analogy that it has quite a bit of similarity to the bendini circut in term of function.

what I was talking about here:

Researching about it the dynamics reminds me a bit of how the bendini circut works where the flap valves (instead of a transistor) suddenly stopping the water current(instead of electricity) results in a 10 - 100x increase in the lift(voltage spike). The waste goes back to the river (which would be the primary battery in the bendini circut case). Simple ones can be built with PVC for less than 50 bucks.

BTW I remember seeing these pumps before or I will say hearing them up in oregon. I was wondering what they were back then, but they looked so unsubstancial I overlooked the genius of it.

Hey shak,
Sorry it took me awhile to reply , this thread just got lost to me , LOL ... Yeah , I see the correlation between the two / where energy that is normally just wasted is made to do useable work ...

Hey 49er , I'm curious if you made a Ram pump and took it to your claim and if it worked out like you needed it to if you did ...

The water that's pumped up could be used for a waterwheel for a generator before it's used for a sluice box or pumped to a holding tank from several pumps to get more useable water flow .

Shak, thank you for bringing this in here!

I'm curious where you've gone with this?

Hi ODR

Home Power Magazine published an article on how to build a ram pump using standard "off the shelf" pipe fitting parts.

The main advantage is that they can pump water ( or any other suitable liquid ) to a height greater than the feed height supply and require no other source of energy ( other than the pressure of water etc feeding it ) to operate.

This is a good example:-

Thank you RonO!

I've seen a few of these before and understand the key component is the check value.
I've read it's the only place 'not' to skimp..
I will at some point dive into these and learn what the losses are to see how practical it could be for my situation.

Still curious if Shak has gone anywhere with this..
I've always liked how your mind works Shak!

Hey ODR,
The first valve is the one that take's the most abuse ... A Brass plunger type ( or lift type ) one way valve is a good choice ... The Brass Nut on top can be drilled and a rod modified through to the plunger ... To add weight to it for adjustment ...
The secondary valve could be a cheaper swinging brass valve or ball check valve ...

something like this one , I know a better price can be found on one , I just found this for demo of a version I was describing.

Curious Doug..
You ever get around to building one?
