Here is a video on how to open a gel cell SLA. Usually by the time you get on that starts to fail it is already too late but sometimes you can save them. Please be careful working with batteries and take all safety precautions.

@ Kudzu : Thanks.

One more thing. The cover in the video comes off a little easier than it should have. I have had some that were very hard and I broke them, but most are only slightly harder than the video shows. That one had been removed by me a few weeks ago and after filling it I put just a little krazy glue on the original glue spots visible in the video. Thanks for watching.

It is my pleasure to try to add something useful to this board.

Hi SD. Thanks. Yes , you can see down in there to the plates just barely. There is not much water in them that I have ever seen. If you add very much they will boil out and make a mess so don't add very much. I'd venture to say just above the plates and thats all. Any more and they will most likely make a mess. I take a water bottle and poke a very small hole in the top then with the lid on tight squeeze the bottle and aim the small stream in there. I have a small syringe but its too small. The nozzle of the syringe fits fine but a bigger one probably will not fit and allow air to escape while filling.

Most of them are about dry when I get to them. Just once it would be nice to see a new one and know where the fluid level should be.
